Love is sometimes a quiet feeling!

I was peeling sweet potatoes in the kitchen when she told me she loved me for the first time.

Telling me this seemed like such a commonplace, yet wonderful, moment, yet she did it anyhow, and it was the most exquisite sensation I’ve ever experienced.

Listen, I believe that love is defined by quiet moments. To love and be loved in return may be fairly simple at times. The truth is that telling someone you love them doesn’t necessarily have to be such a big deal. Grand gestures and spectacular occasions aren’t always required to make the heart flutter. It was one of those “this is what I’ve been waiting for” moments.

Even though it’s 20 degrees outside, love is riding the metro to see each other. Love is deciding on a movie to watch together. When each other’s water cups are practically empty, love is replenishing them. Saving the final slice of tiramisu for the other person is love.
It’s the way she looks at me as I read, and the sensation I get in my chest knowing she’s looking at me and smiling while I read. It’s cooking supper together in a little kitchen while singing whatever song was stuck in our minds that day.

It sends thrills down my spine when I feel her fingers tuck strands of hair behind my ear since she knows it helps me relax. It’s falling asleep together and waking up to find that our bodies have parted over the night, but we’re still holding hands.

Love doesn’t have to be a shout-from-the-rooftops type of thing all of the time. Love may be easy at times. Love may be a sacred experience – a calm moment of emotion.
